Angel Love is an emerging American soprano embarking on the genesis of a promising career. Hailing from Belleville, Illinois, Angel recently finished her Master of Music in vocal performance from the University of California—Los Angeles—where she has extensive experience on the opera stage and as a recitalist.
In her short time at the Herb Alpert School of Music, Riley has performed the lead role of Lala in the world premiere of Lost Childhood by Janice Hamer and Sor Andrea in the New Works Reading of Carla Lucero’s opera Juana. Additional credits include the soprano soloist in Leonard Bernstein’s Songfest for the Los Angeles Bernstein Centennial celebration, the Star-Spangled Banner at a televised Bruins football game in the Rose Bowl, and the soprano soloist in Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 “Resurrection” with the UCLA Philharmonia at the baton of Neal Stulberg alongside mezzo-soprano Amanda Lynn Bottoms.
During her tenure at DePauw University, Angel performed the roles of La Contessa in Le Nozze di Figaro, Mrs. Maurrant in Street Scene, Meg March in Little Women, and Drusilla in The Coronation of Poppea. Riley was also a winner of the DePauw Concerto Competition.
Angel’s exciting stage presence and rich vocal color distinguish her performances, resulting in her winning a coveted position as a 2020 Emerging Artist with Boston Court Pasadena, a 2021 Resident Artist with Indianapolis Opera ,and a 2020-21 Gerdine Young Artist/ 2021-22 Gaddes Festival Artist with the Opera Theatre of St. Louis. Angel most recently made her main stage debut with Opera Theatre of St. Louis as Papagena in The Magic Flute.
Personally, Riley is the youngest of three and prides herself on service. Riley is a lifetime member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated—a historically Black sorority committed to the empowerment of women through scholarship, and health and social justice initiatives.
